Changes to Minor Surgery and Joint Injections from May 2026

What has changed?

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has introduced annual funding limits (also known as caps) on certain procedures carried out in GP practices.

For Cyncoed Medical Centre, the allocated number of procedures for the financial year 1st April 2026 to 31 March 2027 is:

Minor surgery – 29 procedures per year

Joint injections – 158 procedures per year

Once these annual allocations have been reached, the practice will no longer receive funding to provide additional procedures under these services for the remainder of the financial year. Patients may be referred to hospital or may choose private treatment.

The allocations will renew on 1st April 2027.

These limits have been set by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and are outside the practice's control.
